Tiger Woods has insisted that winning will remain his only objective when he makes his first Major appearance of the season at this week's Open Championship.

The former world number one will play for only the second time since undergoing back surgery in March, which forced him to miss The Masters and the US Open, when he tees off at Hoylake on Thursday.

Despite his lack of recent action, Woods has said that he will not reevaluate his expectations for the tournament.

When asked what an acceptable finish would be for him in Liverpool, the American replied to a press conference: "First. That's always the case."

Fourteen-time Major winner Woods recorded the last of his three Open titles when it was held at Hoylake in 2006.
