Scott Jamieson says that he knew he was close to making European Tour history at the Portugal Masters this afternoon.

Scott Jamieson has said that he knew he was close to making European Tour history in the third round of the Portugal Masters.

The Scot, 29, came within inches of carding the first ever sub-60 round on the Tour.

After making 11 birdies on the first 17 holes, Jamieson needed a three on the last and although he overshot with his approach, his chip grazed the edge of the hole before he tapped in for a par and the 18th round of 60 in European Tour history.

Speaking afterwards, the Glaswegian told Sky Sports News: "When I birdied the 13th, I said to Richard (his caddie) then 'A few more and we could be part of history'.

"I was definitely nervous but thinking about it from the tournament point of view the leaders are going to be a minimum of 16, 17 maybe 18-under going into tomorrow so that kept me going."

Jamieson currently holds the clubhouse lead on 14-under par, with overnight leaders David Lynn, Paul Waring and Hennie Otto beginning their respective third rounds on 12-under at the Oceanico Victoria course on the Algarve coast.
