Los Angeles Galaxy winger Robbie Rogers has insisted that coming out as a gay footballer is not a "big deal".

The 26-year-old, who had a stint at Leeds United, is hopeful that British players will feel comfortable to come out after he went public with his sexuality in February.

"I have no clue when someone will feel they can [come out]," Rogers told BBC Radio Five Live.

"I hope soon. I hope they can learn from my experience, if possible, to see that it wasn't a big deal and that I'm playing football and just carrying on with my life."

Justin Fashanu, who committed suicide in 1998, is the only British player to have come out.
