Police have arrested three fans who are alleged to have been involved in the violence that marred the FA Cup semi-final between Wigan Athletic and Millwall.

The authorities appealed to the public to help locate 10 fans in connection with the unsavoury scenes, which took place during Wigan's 2-0 victory over Millwall.

Three men aged 21, 22 and 27 were detained by officers from Operation Arrowtip from addresses in London.

"Large-scale violence and disorder at football matches is completely unacceptable," Sky Sports News quotes Detective Chief Inspector Andy Barnes as saying. "People attending matches expect to be able to do so in a safe and friendly environment.

"We have had an excellent response from the public who have identified people in nine of the 10 images already released. Some have since handed themselves in to police and, to date, we have arrested 23 people. Three have been charged."

Seventeen more images of people alleged to be involved have been released by police.
