Former Swansea City midfielder Ferrie Bodde has been placed into an artificial coma in his native Holland.
The 31-year-old was taken ill on Monday and, following initial treatment, he has been placed in a five-day coma to aid his recovery.
No official confirmation has been given as to what exactly is wrong with the ex Dutch youth international, although his condition is not believed to be life-threatening.
Speaking to Wales Online, a Swansea spokesman said: "We don't know all the facts as yet but our thoughts are with Ferrie and his family. Ferrie was and still is an extremely popular player at this club and we are all hoping that he makes a recovery."
Bodde joined the Swans from Den Haag in 2007, but after a serious knee injury he was released five years later.
