Former Bath winger Levi Davis has revealed that he is bisexual, months after coming out to his teammates on their group WhatsApp chat.
The 22-year-old completed a permanent move to London-based Championship side Ealing Trailfinders last month after almost three years at Bath.
In an in-depth interview with the Daily Mail, Davis - also known for an appearance on ITV's The X Factor: Celebrity last year - opened up on his personal life, admitting that his struggles with his sexuality had led to problems with alcohol and his mental health.
"I had hidden it well but I couldn't keep it secret any longer," he said. "I had to tell [my teammates], all of them, not just a few. I didn't want it to turn into Chinese whispers. So, on the spur of the moment, I put it on our WhatsApp group.
"Thankfully we can now discuss mental health more openly. And in the same way, I want people to feel that they can be who they are and that it is OK to be who they are. Hiding who you are can kill you – and has killed people.
"I don't know yet where I am going, but by talking today I can walk hand-in-hand with whoever I want and it won't matter any more because it's out there."
During his time on The X Factor, Davis formed a boyband called 'Try Star' with fellow rugby stars Thom Evans and Ben Foden, making it as far as the semi-finals.
