Andrew: 'Leaked reports hugely damaging'

RFU director Rob Andrew thinks that "huge" damage has been done to England after the World Cup reports were leaked, but believes that "it can be put right".

The Rugby Football Union's elite director Rob Andrew has claimed that the leaked reports regarding England's World Cup fiasco has been "hugely damaging", but has insisted that he will not resign.

The 48-year-old has come under criticism since the details of the off-field antics of England's elite squad during their time in New Zealand were leaked to the press yesterday.

The businessman has also been partly blamed for Martin Johnson's decision to step down as the national coach last week.

"[The reports are] deeply damaging to the English game if we've got players in the England squad that feel that way," Andrew told Sky Sports News. "I'm not going to comment on individual comments, anonymous comments that have been leaked to the media.

"We didn't ask the coaches to give their comments anonymously, around various things that had gone on. You're always going to have some conflict between coaches and players, always.

"You have to be balanced when you use that information, it's irresponsible to use that information in the way that it's been used. A huge amount of damage has been done [but] it can be put right."

Meanwhile, Brian Smith resigned as England attack coach earlier today.
