Kyle Eastmond defends switching sports

Kyle Eastmond says that his recent England debut justifies his decision to switch from playing rugby league to rugby union.

Bath centre Kyle Eastmond has defended his decision to swap rugby league for rugby union after recently making his England debut.

The 23-year-old was criticised when he announced that he was to leave St Helens in 2011 in order to begin a new career with Bath.

However, having made a scoring debut for England in the 40-12 win over the Barbarians last month, Eastmond feels that his choice has been justified.

"To be involved with England and pull the shirt on first time was unbelievable," said Eastmond. "Just getting out there and getting on the field was great.

"It is not a quick thing when you are switching codes. It has been tough but this is where I want to be and I know what I have got to do to improve myself and improve my game and become a better player.

"Hopefully I can go on and do more. [Rugby league fans] showed what they really thought about the move but it was something I really wanted to do and I am really glad I made the decision and came to rugby union."

Eastmond is likely to be involved again for Saturday's second Test against Argentina in Buenos Aires.
