James Ward concedes that he did not play his best tennis after losing a five-set thriller to Vasek Pospisil at Wimbledon.

James Ward has admitted that he could have played better after losing a five-set thriller with Vasek Pospisil in his third-round Wimbledon exit this evening.

The British hopeful, ranked 111th in the world, looked on course to continue defying his world ranking after moving into a 2-1 lead in sets.

However, his Canadian counterpart responded well by winning the next two sets to clinch a 6-4 3-6 2-6 6-3 8-6 victory.

"He served well, particularly towards the end and I think that was the difference," Ward was quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"Most of the points that went to rallies it was me that was on top. He lifted in the fourth set, kept himself in it with his serve.

"It's mixed emotions, I didn't play to the best of my ability. I gave myself a chance but he lifted and you've just got to give credit to him."

Andy Murray remains the only Briton left standing at SW19 in both the men's and women's singles event.
