British Olympic champion Lizzy Yarnold says that she is grateful for all the support that she has received over the years.

Lizzy Yarnold has thanked her parents and her fellow Team GB members for their support throughout her career.

The 25-year-old Briton won the gold medal in the women's skeleton event at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi on Friday.

"It started such a long time ago," she told Team GB's official website.

"I was an athlete at the age of 13 with my parents driving me around the country every night for training. I wouldn't have got here without them.

"But it is people like the whole team of British Skeleton, National Lottery funding and UK Sport. All of those people make a load difference to us athletes."

Yarnold added that she will continue to train and participate in competitions after the Games in Russia are over.

"I have no idea what will happen in the future," she said. "I love training, I am a dedicated athlete and I am an athlete through and through, that is all I know."

Noelle Pikus-Pace of the USA finished second in the event, while Russia's Elena Nikitina came third.
