India hammer England by nine wickets at Edgbaston to clinch the ODI series between the teams.

India have thrashed England by nine wickets at Edgbaston to clinch the one-day international series between the teams.

The hosts were bowled out for a modest 206 at the start of the day before the tourists made 212-1 with 29 overs remaining to give them an unassailable 3-0 lead heading into Friday's final match at Headingley.

Having been put into bat first, England's time at the crease started badly as Alex Hales (six), Alastair Cook (9) and Gary Ballance (7) were all dismissed early on to leave the home side on 23-3.

Joe Root (44) and Eoin Morgan (32) saw England restore some credibility thanks to their middle-order partnership, while Moeen Ali's 67 off 51 balls pushed their total up further.

However, the lower order could only contribute 17 runs between them before England were bowled out.

Mohammed Shami did most of the damage with the ball for India thanks to figures of 3-28, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ravindra Jadeja were also among the wickets.

India started their run chase in blistering style as Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan made light work of the England bowlers.

Both men had little trouble in reaching their half-centuries, but it was Rahane who was the first to go when he was dismissed by Harry Gurney for 106.

Despite losing one of their openers, India had plenty of time to register the win thanks to an unbeaten 97 from Dhawan and one from Virat Kohli.
