How Bayern Munich could line up against Freiburg

Sports Mole looks at how Bayern Munich could line up ahead of their Bundesliga clash with Freiburg.

Bayern Munich will be hoping to play themselves into form with another win as they look to get their Bundesliga title defence back on track after a shaky start to their domestic campaign.

The reigning champions visit Freiburg after a 6-1 demolition of Werder Bremen last time out that will give them confidence as they claw away at a six-point gap between them and league leaders RB Leipzig.

Bayern also qualified from their Champions League group with a 100% win record for the first time in their history and will face Chelsea in their first knockout game of the tournament.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Bayern could line up for Wednesday's showdown.

Out: Lucas Hernandez (ankle), Niklas Sule (knee), Fiete Arp (wrist)
Doubtful: Kingsley Coman (knee), Mickael Cuisance (ankle), Corentin Tolisso (thigh), Javi Martinez (muscle)

Bayern interim boss Hansi Flick is still missing several key names at the back, but he has no fresh injury concerns and is likely to name a similar side to the one that blew Werder Bremen away last time out.

Manuel Neuer will keep his place between the sticks, with the impressive Alphonso Davies also likely to retain his place at left-back after several strong showings.

The Canadian's presence at full-back means that David Alaba will likely be pushed into a central role, while Jerome Boateng could be dropped after his spat with Joshua Kimmich, meaning that the latter could slot in at right-back and allow Benjamin Pavard to partner the Austrian at the heart of defence as was the case in the second half against Werder Bremen.

In midfield, Leon Goretzka could drop into a deeper role alongside Thiago, allowing hat-trick hero Philippe Coutinho to play in his preferred position ahead of the pair.

Ivan Perisic, who was introduced at half-time for Boateng, could keep his spot on the left, with he and Serge Gnabry on the right flanking the deadly Robert Lewandowski up front.
