Justin Kluivert's 79th-minute strike proved enough to guide Bournemouth to a narrow 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at the Vitality Stadium.

The Eagles thought that they had taken the lead in the closing stages of the first period, but Eberechi Eze ultimately saw his left-foot strike ruled out for an offside in the lead-up to the goal.

Bournemouth were made to rue that disallowed goal when substitute Kluivert found the all-important breakthrough in the second period, securing the Cherries a third consecutive victory.

The win moves Andoni Iraola's side up to 11th place in the Premier League table, while Crystal Palace are 11 points behind in 14th position.

After a cagey opening quarter, Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta registered the first shot on target, with his driven strike forcing Neto into a routine stop.

Just moments later, Bournemouth created their own opening through Philip Billing, who fired a low strike past the far post.

Billing continued to lead Bournemouth's quest for the breakthrough, testing Henderson with a dipping free kick before he saw a header tipped over by the Palace goalkeeper.

Defender Lloyd Kelly then threatened from the resulting corner, but he could only send his headed effort harmlessly wide of Henderson's goal.

After surviving a period of Bournemouth pressure, Oliver Glasner's side thought that they had taken the lead on the stroke of half time.

Eze collected Jordan Ayew's low cross before sending a left-footed strike past Neto, only to see his effort ruled out for an offside against Mateta in the build-up.

Following a cautious start to the second period, the Cherries went close to hitting the front in the 66th minute when Henderson parried Milos Kerkez's long-range shot into the path of Solanke, who was unable to beat the Palace shot-stopper from the subsequent rebound.

For large periods of the second half, it seemed as though the two sides would have to settle for a share of the spoils.

However, Kluivert ultimately changed the complexion of the contest in the 79th minute when he received Antoine Semenyo's neat cutback, before setting the ball out of his feet and thumping it beyond the helpless Henderson.

Buoyed from his assist, Semenyo nearly grabbed a goal of his own, but he saw his shot kept out by Henderson, ensuring that Bournemouth's advantage remained a slender one.

The South-coast club ultimately stood firm to claim three precious points and extend their unbeaten run to five matches. body check tags ::
