Sports Mole previews Sunday's Women's Super League clash between Brighton & Hove Albion Women and Tottenham Hotspur Ladies, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Two sides who have endured mixed starts to the Women's Super League, Tottenham Hotspur Ladies will make the trip to Brighton & Hove Albion Women on Sunday afternoon.

Neither team have set the league alight this season, with the pair boasting just nine points between them after four matches.

Match preview

Inconsistency has plagued Tottenham's start to the WSL campaign, with Spurs boasting two wins from four matches.

An opening-day victory over Leicester City was followed up by a hammering against rivals Arsenal, before Spurs bounced back with a triumph over promoted Liverpool.

Unable to build on either of their victories, Tottenham once again slipped to a defeat last weekend, shipping three without return to Manchester City.

Goalscoring has been a problem for Spurs so far, with their tally of three goals netted the fourth worst in the entire division.

No side ahead of them in the table have scored fewer goals – something Tottenham will need to address if they are to climb up the league.

Similarly, Brighton have also struggled at times, picking up one win from four outings, while losing the other three.

Their latest defeat came against reigning champions Chelsea last time out, with the 2-0 loss now meaning that Brighton are without a goal in their previous two matches.

It is only a slender 2-1 victory over relegation candidates Reading that has prevented Brighton from a pointless start to the season.

History suggests that Brighton's struggling form will continue this weekend, given the strong head-to-head record that Spurs boast over the Seagulls.

Three of Brighton's five WSL meetings with Tottenham have ended in defeat, with Spurs typically enjoying the better results in this clash.

However, Brighton do boast two victories over Spurs in the league, most recently during this fixture last season when the Seagulls triumphed 2-1 over Tottenham.

Team News

Drew Spence joined Tottenham in the summer and has featured in a number of positions so far, with the versatile player likely to feature for the visitors this weekend.

Having kept a clean sheet last weekend, Tinja-Riikka Korpela will be keen to keep back-to-back shutouts for the first time this season on Sunday.

Expect Molly Bartrip to anchor a back-three containing both Shelina Zadorsky and Amy Turner.

After shipping two against champions Chelsea on Sunday, a clean sheet will be the target for Megan Walsh in the Brighton goal this weekend.

Lee Geum-min has contributed to both of Brighton's league goals this season, netting once and assisting the other.

She will be hoping to contribute once again on Sunday, with fellow forward Elisabeth Terland also likely to feature in attack.

Brighton & Hove Albion Women possible starting lineup:
Walsh; Green, Williams, Kullberg, Pattinson; Robinson, Bance, Olme, Sarri; Lee, Terland

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies possible starting lineup:
Korpela; Turner, Bartrip, Zadorsky; Ildhusoy, James, Summanen, Ale; Karczewska, Spence, Neville

We say: Brighton & Hove Albion Women 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur Ladies

Both sides will likely view this fixture as a chance to kick-start their campaign, having struggled at times so far.

Spurs will fancy themselves as favourites and should have few issues taking three points on Sunday.
