Columbus Crew earned their fourth win of the MLS season as they defeated the Chicago Fire 2-0 in their clash on Saturday.
The Crew took the lead in the 10th minute when Federico Higuain played Ethan Finlay behind the Fire defence and he rounded Sean Johnson before slotting the ball into the net.
Quincy Amarikwa tried to get his side level minutes later, but his shot from the edge of the area was well held by Steve Clark.
Columbus doubled their lead as Higuain turned provider again this time releasing the run of Jairo Arrieta who beat his man and then fired past Johnson from inside the box.
The Fire almost got a goal back immediately when Harry Shipp lifted a cross into the area for Juan Luis Anangono who headed at goal, but his effort clattered off the post.
After the break, Justin Meram could have added a third after Dominic Oduro raided down the right and cut the ball back for the midfielder, but his shot was beaten away by Johnson.
Chicago pressed in their search for a lifeline and almost got it when Amarikwa won the ball in the Crew half only to see his powerful shot saved by Clark.
The home side nearly wrapped the game up in style when Oduro headed a cross from a corner at goal, but Shipp was on the line to head the ball away.
