D.C. United have claimed their first point of the MLS season after a goalless draw with Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place.
Martin Rennie will have been the happier of the two coaches to take a point, after the United defence denied Whitecaps' attack, which included the in-form Eric Hassli, a single shot on goal.
United would have won the game if it was not for an inspired display by Vancouver goalkeeper Joe Cannon, who made two outstanding saves in the second half.
In the 67th minute, the experienced stopper made a fine fingertip save to deny a Hamdi Salihi header.
Six minutes from time, Cannon produced a commanding parry to thwart Dwayne De Rosario, who had found space in the six-yard box.
