Sports Mole previews Sunday's Scottish Premiership clash between Hibernian and Aberdeen, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Both tussling for top spot in the relegation group, Hibernian and Aberdeen will clash at Easter Road Stadium in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon.

Hibs suffered a surprise defeat at the hands of Ross County last time out, whilst the Dons managed a narrow success at home over St Johnstone.

Match preview

Since the post-season split, Hibernian have collected three Premiership points from two matches, leaving their chances of finishing seventh in the league overall in a healthy state, especially after the win over St Johnstone on April 27.

However, it was a defeat for Hibs last time out when they travelled to relegation-threatened Ross County, who struck either side of the half-time whistle through Simon Murray and Jordan White to seal a 2-1 success at Global Energy Stadium.

With a disappointing loss against the Staggies fresh in the memory, Nick Montgomery's troops now have back-to-back league fixtures at Easter Road to put things right, starting with Sunday's match versus Aberdeen before Motherwell visit Edinburgh on Wednesday night.

Heading into the final two matches of the Premiership campaign, Hibs are currently occupying seventh position, just the single point ahead of eighth-placed Aberdeen as all attention turns towards this weekend's clash between the two sides.

Since the departure of Neil Warnock from the managerial hotseat in the middle of March, Aberdeen have only suffered one defeat in seven Premiership matches and extended their unbeaten run in the division to six games with a 1-0 victory over 11th-placed St Johnstone last time out.

Interim head coach Peter Leven is doing a marvellous job at steering the Dons ship and guided his men to a victory over the struggling Stones last weekend, when a second-half penalty from North Macedonian marksman Bojan Miovski was enough to claim maximum points.

Possessing a 100% record so far following the post-season split, Aberdeen are sitting second in the Relegation Group, with the opportunity to leapfrog Sunday's opponents Hibernian with a win at Easter Road.

Dons striker Miovski has netted an impressive tally of 15 goals in 35 Premiership matches this term and joins Lawrence Shankland (Hearts), Theo Bair (Motherwell) and Murray (Ross County) as the only players outside of the Rangers and Celtic squads to net double figures in the division this season.

Team News

Hibernian are set to be without the services of Luke Amos, with the former Queens Park Rangers man currently sidelined due to a muscle injury.

The hosts are also be expected to be unable to call upon the talents of Jake Doyle-Hayes, who is still making a comeback from a long-term ankle issue.

After helping their side keep a clean sheet last time out, Stefan Gartenmann and Angus MacDonald should remain as the centre-back pairing in front of Kelle Roos.

One of Warnock's favourites Junior Hoilett is continuing to have an impact in Scotland, and the Canadian should start in attack alongside the likes of Leighton Clarkson and Jamie McGrath.

Hibernian possible starting lineup:
Wollacott; Cadden, Bushiri, Hanlon, Obita; Moriah-Welsh, Newell, Boyle, Marcondes, Maolida; Le Fondre

Aberdeen possible starting lineup:
Roos; Devlin, Gartenmann, MacDonald, MacKenzie; Barron, Polvara, McGrath, Clarkson, Hoilett; Miovski

We say: Hibernian 1-2 Aberdeen

After losing to relegation-threatened Ross County last weekend, Hibernian will not be full of confidence heading into Sunday's clash with Aberdeen.

The Dons have made light work of the post-season split so far and should be good enough for a third straight victory in the Premiership this weekend.
