Leeds United assistant manager Nigel Gibbs has admitted that he is in the dark over speculation surrounding Brian McDermott.
A report claimed that McDermott had been sacked as manager on Friday evening, although a recent statement from the club said that the boss remains at the helm.
Gibbs told Sky Sports News: "I got the call to take the team about 12:15, so I stepped in and took Brian's team. I've heard the club have put a statement out, but I've not read it yet.
"The answer is I don't know [if McDermott will return]. I really hope so, he's really popular here and doing a great job in difficult circumstances.
"It's been tough for everyone, but the most important thing is the football club."
Leeds are currently 11th in the Championship.
