Bruun Larsen scores as Burnley beat Luton Town

Burnley got their first Premier League win of the season on the board with a 2-1 victory against Luton Town in a closely-contested affair at Kenilworth Road this evening.

Lyle Foster and Jacob Bruun Larsen were on the scoresheet to secure an important victory for the Clarets, but they were unable to move out of the relegation zone, as they still have a worse goal-difference than their opponents.

Although it is still very early days in the Premier League season, Vincent Kompany will be relieved he has finally got his first win in the bag as a top-flight manager, and his side had to work very hard for it.

During the first half, both sides created a number of opportunities, despite recording just one shot on target between them, but they lacked the cutting edge to find the back of the net.

Burnley were the more dangerous side in the opening half-an-hour, with Zeki Amdouni looking particularly lively, having a close-range header from a corner turned over, just a few minutes after firing an effort from distance over the bar.

The Hatters began to grow into the game as the half wore on, with Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu's shot from inside the box being blocked by Josh Cullen, but they were made to pay for not taking their chances in stoppage time.

Tom Lockyer will be particularly disappointed with the goal the hosts conceded, as the centre-back made a real mess of clearing a through ball from Sander Berge, before Foster slipped it past Thomas Kaminski to score his third Premier League goal of the season.

After opening the scoring late in the first half, the Clarets came out of the traps quickly in the second period, with Josh Brownhill testing Kaminski with a powerful shot, which the goalkeeper did well to keep out.

However, Rob Edwards's side certainly kept the visitors on their toes, and Jacob Brown's goal-bound header just after the hour mark was only prevented by heroics from Cullen on the line, after beating James Trafford.

The chances kept coming for Luton, and the home crowd thought Carlton Morris should have been awarded a penalty when Jordan Beyer appeared to bring the striker down in the box, but referee Peter Bankes decided the defender got enough of the ball.

After pegging Burnley back for much of the second half, the Hatters finally got their reward in the 84th minute, with Elijah Adebayo finding the bottom corner inside the box after the ball was nodded down by first-half substitute Reece Burke.

Despite working so hard to get back into the game, however, Edwards's side were unable to keep the game level for long, as Bruun Larsen scored a sensational winner almost immediately from kick-off, cutting in and finding the far corner with a curling effort.

The Danish winger's late strike was enough to secure an important three points for Burnley, with Kompany's side withstanding late pressure from Luton Town to pick up their first Premier League win of the campaign. body check tags ::
