Ruben Dias has returned to Manchester City's starting lineup for tonight's Premier League clash against Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium.

The Portuguese centre-back has missed the last two games due to concussion, including Wednesday's UEFA Super Cup victory against Sevilla.

However, Dias has been recalled to Pep Guardiola's first XI for tonight's encounter with the Magpies along with attacker Julian Alvarez, with the duo taking the places of Cole Palmer - who starred for City in their UEFA Super Cup win - and Nathan Ake.

Dias will join captain Kyle Walker, Manuel Akanji and Josko Gvardiol - who is making his home debut - in the back four that will protect goalkeeper Ederson between the sticks.

Rodri and Mateo Kovacic will link arms in centre-midfield as Phil Foden and Jack Grealish occupy the flanks, while Alvarez is set to play in behind star striker Erling Haaland.

John Stones and Bernardo Silva both miss out due to respective muscle and illness issues, while there is no sign of Aymeric Laporte in Man City's matchday squad amid links with a potential summer exit.

As for Newcastle, Eddie Howe has decided to name an unchanged starting lineup a week on from their thumping 5-1 home victory against Aston Villa.

A back four of Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar, Sven Botman and Dan Burn will line up behind midfield trio Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton, while Miguel Almiron - who scored in the 3-3 draw against Man City at St James' Park last season - retains his place in the front three with Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak, who netted a brace against Aston Villa last weekend.

Summer signings Harvey Barnes and Valentino Livramento are among the substitutes' bench along with the likes of Callum Wilson, Sean Longstaff and Elliot Anderson.

Manchester City lineup: Ederson; Walker, Akanji, Dias, Gvardiol; Rodri, Kovacic; Foden, Alvarez, Grealish; Haaland
Subs: Ortega, Phillips, Ake, Gomez, Perrone, Bobb, Palmer, Lewis, McAtee

Newcastle United lineup: Pope; Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn; Tonali, Guimaraes, Joelinton; Almiron, Isak, Gordon
Subs: Dubravka, Lascelles, Wilson, Ritchie, Targett, Livramento, Barnes, Anderson, Longstaff
