Manchester United team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Newcastle United

Sports Mole rounds up all of Manchester United's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Wednesday's EFL Cup last-16 clash with Newcastle United.

A dejected Manchester United resume the defence of their EFL Cup crown when their 2022-23 final opponents Newcastle United make the journey to Old Trafford for Wednesday's fourth-round tie.

Erik ten Hag's men cruised past Crystal Palace 3-0 in their knockout opener in September, where Alejandro Garnacho, Casemiro and Anthony Martial were among the scorers.

However, the Red Devils were embarrassed by the same scoreline when Manchester City visited the Theatre of Dreams for Sunday's blockbuster derby, as they succumbed to Erling Haaland's brace and a late Phil Foden tap-in to slump to a deserved defeat.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Man United's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the clash with Newcastle, who achieved what the holders could not by sinking Man City 1-0 in the third round.

Casemiro

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: November 1 (vs. Newcastle)

Brazilian midfielder Casemiro is yet to fully recover from an ankle problem and lost his battle to be fit for the Manchester derby, but there is hope that he will return to the squad in midweek.

Luke Shaw

Status: Out
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: November 26 (vs. Everton)

Luke Shaw has spent two months in the medical bay with the muscular issue he picked up against Tottenham Hotspur towards the start of the new term, and he is not expected to return to action until after the next international break.

Tyrell Malacia

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: November 26 (vs. Everton)

Fellow left-back Tyrell Malacia is also on the road to recovery from the knee operation he underwent in the summer, and the Dutchman will not be seen in a Red Devils shirt for another few weeks yet.

Lisandro Martinez

Status: Out
Type of injury: Foot
Possible return date: January 14 (vs. Tottenham Hotspur)

Back in September, it was announced that Lisandro Martinez had gone under the knife after aggravating his season-ending foot injury from last term, and the Argentine is expected to be missing for the remainder of the calendar year.

Amad Diallo

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Owing to the severe knee injury he picked up in pre-season, Ivorian winger Amad Diallo was ruled out of the first half of the 2023-24 campaign, and his participation in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations is also in doubt.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: November 1 (vs. Newcastle)

Ten Hag confirmed before the Manchester derby that Aaron Wan-Bissaka was back in training following a thigh issue, and while the visit of the champions came too soon for him, there is a chance that he could make a midweek comeback.

MANCHESTER UNITED SUSPENSION LIST

Man United have no players suspended for this match, but Jadon Sancho remains in exile after publicly calling out Ten Hag over his omission from the squad for September's loss to Arsenal.
