Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback has been fined £25,000 by the Football Association after breaching betting rules.
The 27-year-old was charged with misconduct after allegedly placing a bet on a match that was played on March 16, 2016.
The Magpies were not involved in the game in question, nor did the fixture affect the club's standings in the Premier League, but FA rules prohibit players from betting on any football match across the globe.
A statement from the FA read: "The Newcastle United player breached FA Rule E8 in respect of a bet placed on the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of, or occurrence in, a football match or competition on March 16, 2016."
Colback, who joined Newcastle from Sunderland in 2014, dropped into the Championship with the club last season, but Rafael Benitez's side are on course to return to the top flight as they currently reside at the top of the table with a two-point lead.
