Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has opened talks with Oxford United over the vacant managerial job, according to a report.
The 39-year-old brought an end to his playing career 11 months ago and has since been working on his coaching badges.
Lampard was in contention to take charge at the Kassam Stadium last summer, only for Pep Clotet - sacked on Monday following the 2-1 loss at home to bottom side Bury - to be given the nod.
After helping out at Under-18s level at former club Chelsea, The Sun suggests that Oxford are prepared to take a risk and offer Lampard his first senior coaching position.
The U's sit 10th in the League One table, eight points adrift of the playoffs after back-to-back defeats.
