Roma lead Fiorentina 2-0 at half time at the Stadio Artemio Franchi thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Gervinho.
Former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko had a chance to put the visitors into the lead after just four minutes, but his attempt from outside of the box was saved by Ciprian Tatarusanu.
Roma were successful in breaking the deadlock three minutes later, however, with Chelsea loanee Salah putting the Giallorossi ahead by firing into the bottom corner of the net after receiving the ball from Miralem Pjanic.
Facundo Roncaglia and Nikola Kalinic both had chances to level the game for Fiorentina in the opening 20 minutes, but blazed the ball beyond the woodwork.
Rudi Garcia's side then doubled their lead 10 minutes before the break when Gervinho used his pace on the break to get into the Fiorentina box and put the ball beyond Tatarusanu.
Matias Vecino shot from outside the box as half time approached, but Arsenal loanee goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny was on hand to save and keep the score at 2-0.
