New Roma boss Rudi Garcia has begun life in Serie A with a 2-0 win at newly-promoted Livorno, as the visitors finally made their pressure tell in the second half.
Garcia made a number of surprising calls in his starting XI, with Erik Lamela left out of the side and Marco Borriello preferred in a lone front role.
Livorno worked hard to frustrate the visitors in a scrappy first 45 minutes, with Gervinho eventually introduced for the Giallorossi after the interval.
On 65 minutes Roma broke the deadlock thanks to a magnificent strike from Daniele De Rossi, who drilled a thunderous drive into the top corner from distance.
Just 90 seconds later Garcia's men doubled their advantage thanks to Alessandro Florenzi, who measured a controlled volley into the bottom corner after collecting a long pass from Leandro Castan.
Francesco Totti and Maicon went close to a third goal in the closing stages, with Livorno unable to force a response on a disappointing return to the Italian top flight.
