Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship clash between Rotherham United and Bristol City, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Bristol City will have their sights set on breaking into the Championship top two when they travel to Rotherham United on Saturday.

A 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers in midweek meant that the Robins rose to sixth in the table, only a point behind the automatic promotion spots.

Match preview

Famara Diedhiou came off the bench to score the winner in the 82nd minute on Wednesday, as Bristol City kept a first clean sheet in four games against Rovers, who are the division's top scorers.

The two teams had 38 shots between them in an exciting clash at Ashton Gate, and Dean Holden described the victory as the perfect response to defeat against Birmingham City last weekend.

The Robins are now one of four teams on 30 points, emphasising just how close the Championship promotion race currently is.

No team in the division has picked up more points away from home than Bristol City, who have picked up 16 points from a possible 24 on the road, and have only been beaten by fellow promotion hopefuls Bournemouth and Reading.

Rotherham are without a win in their last six games, and have picked up just four points from the last 27 available.

They lost 2-0 away to Watford on Tuesday night, leaving them only one point above the relegation zone in 20th position.

Paul Warne said he was "really proud of the performance" as his team fell to defeat Vicarage Road after conceding twice in the first 15 minutes.

This is becoming a common trope in Warne's post-match press conferences despite Rotherham continuing to lose games, but the Millers must now turn moments of promise into results.

Bristol City Championship form: WDLWLW

Team News

Paul Warne confirmed in midweek that Joe Mattock will be out for two or three months after suffering severe damage to his ankle.

In the words of Warne, Rotherham are currently missing "nearly half the team", with Shaun MacDonald, Kieran Sadlier, Clark Robertson and Chiedozie Ogbene all also sidelined.

Kyle Vassell was given a rare start upfront against Watford, but Freddie Ladapo is expected to come back into the side at the weekend.

Jay Dasilva missed Bristol City's win over Blackburn with an ongoing shin issue, but Tommy Rowe put in a confident performance in his place and should start again at left-back.

Famara Diedhiou is pushing for a start after scoring off the bench in midweek, but he may be asked to play out wide if Dean Holden continues with the 4-3-3 system he has deployed in recent games.

Rotherham United possible starting lineup:
Blackman; Harding, MacDonald, Ihiekwe; Olosunde, Barlaser, Crooks, Lindsay, Wiles; Smith, Ladapo

Bristol City possible starting lineup:
Bentley; Hunter, Vyner, Kalas, Rowe; O'Dowda, Nagy, Bakinson; Diedhiou, Martin, Wells

We say: Rotherham United 0-2 Bristol City

Bristol City will be keen to find some consistency as they seek to cement their place in the playoffs, and they will see the trip to Rotherham as a big chance to get back-to-back wins for the first time in six games. The Millers are in a rut, and it is hard to see them getting out of it anytime soon.
