Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed that Jose Fonte will miss Wednesday's Capital One Cup quarter-final against Liverpool with a knee problem.
The team captain was already a doubt for the encounter at St Mary's after he cut his knee during Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
"Jose Fonte is not available for tomorrow," Koeman told reporters. "We have good hope that he will be fit for the Saturday game. That is a good option, not tomorrow."
Southampton have secured victory in just one of their last five meetings with Liverpool, but managed to earn a 1-1 draw at Anfield earlier this season.
