Mark Hughes: 'Peter Crouch changed the game'

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes credits Peter Crouch with changing the match when he came on as a sub during his side's 2-2 draw with Leicester City.

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has talked up the impact that Peter Crouch had on his side's 2-2 draw with Leicester City at the bet365 Stadium this afternoon.

Crouch came off the bench to score his third Premier League goal of the season - all of which have come as a sub - with his strike ultimately proving to be enough for Stoke to earn a point.

Hughes believes that his side deserved at least the draw but, despite coming from behind twice against Claude Puel's men, believes that the Potters could have won it late on.

"We could have won it at the end. That was a great save by Kasper [Schmeichel]. Playing against Leicester is always difficult because they like to play in behind but we had to force that issue. We definitely deserved something out of that game," he told BBC Sport.

"It was end to end stuff. First half, they got us on the counter and we allowed them to play in behind and you can't do that against Leicester with the likes of [Jamie] Vardy and [Riyad] Mahrez. We changed things in the second half and did well to come from behind twice.

"Peter Crouch was effective when he came on. He always gets himself in a good position and he understood what was required. He changed the game for us.

"It's important that you consistently pick up points. We won't win every game, we won't lose every game. It's about getting a steady return in terms of points. Every time you get a Premier League point you should celebrate."

The point lifts Stoke four clear of the relegation zone.
