Sunderland duo Nicklas Bendtner and Lee Cattermole have both been released on police bail after being arrested yesterday on suspicion of criminal damage.
Police launched an investigation after a number of cars were attacked near local rival Newcastle United's Sports Direct Arena last week, soon after Sunderland's 2-1 defeat at Wolves.
"We can confirm that on Thursday, December 15, two men aged 23 were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage," a Northumbria Police spokesperson said, according to The Sun.
"It follows an investigation in to damage caused to cars on Stowell Street in Newcastle city centre, which happened at about 10pm on Tuesday, December 6."
Police are understood to be examining CCTV footage while attempting to establish the exact number of cars that were damaged in the alleged attack.
