Sunderland have maintained their unbeaten start to the Championship campaign with a 1-1 draw against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.
The Black Cats took the lead with just four minutes on the clock when George Honeyman got on the end of Aiden McGeady's measured cross and lashed the ball into the net.
Sunderland had opportunities to extend their lead through strikers Lewis Grabban and James Vaughan, but their advantage lasted until the 70th minute when a rocket from Owls midfielder David Jones made the net bulge.
Wednesday had the better of the closing stages, striking the bar through Gary Hooper late on and the former Celtic man also drove a shot narrowly wide at the death.
The result moves Sunderland up to sixth place in the table with five points from three matches, while winless Wednesday are 20th with two on the board.
