Former United States captain Landon Donovan will be part of the American investment group that is set to take over Swansea City.
The Premier League outfit confirmed that the £100m deal with investors Steve Kaplan and Jason Levien had been completed last week, subject to Premier League approval.
The American pair have now announced that Donovan will act as an advisor, although the former Everton striker will not take part in the day-to-day running of the club.
Donovan, now 34, spent two spells on loan at Everton in the English top flight in 2010 and 2012.
Kaplan and Levien both own sports teams in the United States, but this is their first foray into English football.
