Tony Pulis: 'West Bromwich Albion fans have forgiven Saido Berahino'

Tony Pulis claims that the West Bromwich Albion supporters have forgiven Saido Berahino for wanting to leave the club.

West Bromwich Albion head coach Tony Pulis has claimed that the club's supporters have forgiven Saido Berahino for wanting to leave The Hawthorns.

The England Under-21 striker handed in a transfer request over the summer, then threatened to never play for the club again following two rejected bids from Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the transfer window.

Berahino netted the winning goal in Saturday's 1-0 victory at Midlands rivals Aston Villa upon his return to the starting XI, and Pulis has insisted that the frontman has been treated well by the Baggies fans.

"They've been very good and very supportive and the great thing for me is the Saido situation," he told BT Sport.

"I think Saido was concerned there might be a little turning of the tide but they were absolutely wonderful when he came on against Southampton and last Saturday against Villa.

"They truly are in love with their football club and they want their football club to do well and Saido is a big part of that now. They have embraced him and brought him back into the fold - that naughty child! It's good because it takes the pressure off him. It's the biggest thing for the lads to take the pressure off."

West Brom host Everton on Monday evening.
