Sports Mole previews Sunday's Women's Super League clash between West Ham United Women and Everton Ladies, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

West Ham United Women will attempt to end a seven-game winless run in all competitions when they face Everton Ladies in Sunday's Women's Super League contest.

The visitors, meanwhile, will be looking to record consecutive victories after they beat Aston Villa in their final game before the international break.

Match preview

After succeeding Paul Konchesky in the summer, Rehanne Skinner has found it tough going in her short time as West Ham boss, having seen her side win just two of their 10 competitive matches.

Since beating Charlton Athletic in the League Cup on October 11, the Hammers have gone on to endure a seven-game winless run, which includes five straight defeats.

In their most recent outing, the Hammers were beaten 3-0 by title-chasing Arsenal after they shipped all three goals in a disappointing first half.

Having mustered just four points from their eight league games, West Ham are languishing in 11th place, with goal difference keeping them above basement side Bristol City.

After conceding 17 goals in their last five competitive games, the Hammers will be desperate to produce an improved defensive display in Sunday's contest.

Everton, who occupy eighth position, are four points better off than their opponents after they claimed their second league win of the season prior to the international break.

An Anna Patten own goal and a Nathalie Bjorn penalty guided the Toffees to a narrow 2-1 away victory over Aston Villa, bringing an end to their five-game winless run in all competitions.

While Everton are still waiting for their first home win of the season, they are currently enjoying a three-match unbeaten away streak in the WSL (W2, L1).

As a result of their fine form on the road, the Toffees have the chance to go four top-flight away games without defeat for the first time since 2012.

That may be easier said than done, though, as Everton have failed to win any of their last three away meetings with the Hammers (D1, L2) since they recorded a narrow 1-0 victory in March 2019.

Team News

West Ham are still unable to call upon the services of midfielder Emma Snerle, who is a long-term injury absentee.

Goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold is a doubt after she missed the defeat to Arsenal with an arm injury, which also prevented her from linking up with the Australia squad over the international break.

Having scored three goals in eight league appearances, Riko Ueki will look to add to their tally when she features up front against the Toffees.

As for the visitors, they are still unable to call upon Lucy Hope and Elise Stenevik, while Martina Piemonte will serve the second match of a three-game suspension.

Brian Sorensen has revealed that Justine Vanhaevermaet and Katrine Veje will miss out due to knee and ankle injuries respectively.

The Everton boss has also indicated that Bjorn and Karen Holmgaard could be given one half each to help build up their fitness following their recent returns from injury.

West Ham United Women possible starting lineup:
Walsh; Shimizu, Hayashi, Tysiak, Cissoko, Smith; Evans, Stringer, Harries; Asseyi, Ueki

Everton Ladies possible starting lineup:
Brosnan; K. Holmgaard, Finnigan, Veje; Olesen, Bennison, Wheeler, S. Holmgaard; Sorensen, Payne, Snoeijs

We say: West Ham United Women 1-2 Everton Ladies

Although Everton are having to contend with a number of injuries, they are currently enjoying a three-game unbeaten league run, and we think that they will extend that impressive spell of away form by claiming a narrow victory in Sunday's contest.
