Police have detained a supporter in Moscow after a statue outside the stadium where England faced Colombia was vandalised.
The word "England" was inscribed in red across the chest of ex-Spartak Moscow player Fyodor Cherenkov in the vicinity of the Spartak Stadium on Tuesday evening.
An investigation has now been launched and one individual has been identified as a potential culprit, but his or her nationality has not been revealed.
Cherenkov won three Soviet titles during his time with Spartak, as well as one Russian title, making him a hero to the club's supporters.
England went on to beat Colombia 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw to progress through to the World Cup quarter-finals.
