Leicester Tigers have signed lock Jack Whetton from Australian side Brumbies until the end of the season.
The 22-year-old, who is the son of former New Zealand captain Gary Whetton, has recently been training with the Tigers.
Leicester have the option to extend the deal when the current campaign finishes.
"We are a little bit short of lock cover," director of rugby Richard Cockerill told BBC Sport. "He has signed until the end of the season. We have an option for longer and we'll see how he gets on."
The Tigers return to European Rugby Champions Cup action on Sunday when they welcome Toulon to Welford Road.
