Toulon took victory in the Heineken Cup in a low-scoring game against Sale Sharks this afternoon.
The fly-halves struggled in the early stages, Danny Cipriani and Jonny Wilkinson each missing two penalties in the opening half hour.
David Smith gave Toulon the lead with a try after 29 minutes, but Wilkinson continued to struggle, missing the conversion.
Two successful penalty kicks for each side in the first half saw the French side lead 11-6 at the break.
The former England international added another three points for the visitors early in the second half.
Toulon approached much of the second half in a defensive manner, looking to protect their lead rather than increase it, while Sale pushed to get back in the game but could not get across the line.
Wilkinson missed a drop goal inside the last 10 minutes, but did add to Toulon's score with a penalty five minutes later.
The win means that Toulon are unbeaten in the Heineken Cup this season, while Sale have two losses from their three matches.
