Atalanta BC have secured a 2-1 win against Sampdoria in Monday night's Serie A clash at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia.
The hosts took the lead after just six minutes when, in an attempt to make a clearance, Sampdoria defender Niklas Moisander headed the ball into his own net.
Five minutes later Maximiliano Moralez found himself unmarked in a promising position after receiving a cross on the edge of the box, but his attempt sailed just wide of the left post.
The visitors then marauded forward, with Joaquin Correa skipping past a number of challenges and making it to the edge of the area before scuffing his shot wide.
Atalanta, however, were dominant in the first half and weighed in with a number of dangerous chances which tested Emiliano Viviano, but couldn't add to their tally come the half-time whistle.
It proved to be more of the same after the restart as Edy Reja's charges continued to lay siege to the Sampdoria box, with Alberto Grassi and Marten de Roon coming close to doubling their side's lead.
Just as it looked like the match would end with just one goal, Atalanta then made sure of the win when, in the first minute of injury time, Moralez latched on to German Denis's ball to rifle home from inside the box.
Roberto Soriano capped off a frantic end to the game when he halved the deficit in the fourth minute of added time, but it proved too little too late to mount a late comeback.
The result puts Atalanta eighth in the Serie A table, a point and a place ahead of Sampdoria.
