Sports Mole previews Saturday's League One clash between Charlton Athletic and Carlisle United, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Charlton Athletic will attempt to extend their unbeaten run to seven matches when they play host to Carlisle United on Saturday.

The Addicks will begin the weekend in 14th position, while the Cumbrians are currently propping up the League One table.

Match preview

Charlton continued their rejuvenation under Nathan Jones with a 3-1 win in Tuesday's away meeting with Cheltenham Town.

Daniel Kanu saw his opener cancelled out by Liam Sercombe, before Tyreeq Bakinson and Alfie May scored late goals to secure all three points.

Having gone six games without defeat, the Addicks have established a seven-point cushion to the drop zone to alleviate their relegation fears.

After playing three consecutive away matches, Charlton will return to The Valley on Saturday, with Jones hoping to secure his first home victory.

In fact, the Addicks are looking to pick up three points on home turf for the first time since recording a 2-1 victory over Cheltenham at the end of November.

While the hosts are well set to retain their third-tier status, Carlisle are bracing themselves for an immediate return to League Two.

Having won just five of their 35 matches, Paul Simpson's side are sitting rock bottom of the standings with a mammoth 15-point gap to safety.

Carlisle managed to end an eight-game losing run in their away clash with Burton Albion at the end of February, but they were unable to build upon that result in last Saturday's home game against Reading.

Jon Mellish's 71st-minute effort proved to be a mere consolation after a Sam Smith strike and a Harvey Knibbs brace had given Reading a three-goal lead.

Although they lost out in their recent home outing, the Cumbrians go into the weekend with the chance to record a second straight away victory for the first time this season.

Team News

Charlton remain without Kayne Ramsay and Miles Leaburn due to hamstring issues, while Rarmani Edmonds-Green is a doubt after being forced off against Cheltenham.

Lloyd Jones came off the bench to replace Edmonds-Green in Tuesday's win, and he will be ready to feature if the Huddersfield Town loanee is unable to take his place in the side.

May will look to add to his 18-goal league tally when he features up front on Saturday, with the Charlton striker expected to be joined in the frontline by Kanu.

As for the visitors, they are still unable to call upon Joshua Kayode and Georgie Kelly, who are continuing to work their way back from their respective injury issues.

Jordan Gibson and Alfie McCalmont are both in contention to start after they came off the bench to play the final half-hour against Reading.

Sunderland loanee Jack Diamond is set to make a sixth consecutive start in a front two alongside Luke Armstrong.

Charlton Athletic possible starting lineup:
Isted; Jones, Thomas, Gillesphey; Watson, Coventry, Dobson, Anderson, Small; May, Kanu

Carlisle United possible starting lineup:
Lewis; Ellis, Lavelle, Huntington, Mellish, Armer; Gibson, McCalmont, Charters; Armstrong, Diamond

We say: Charlton Athletic 3-1 Carlisle United

Charlton will be full of confidence after winning two of their last three matches, and we think that they will do enough to sweep past Carlisle and claim their first home win since November.
