Sports Mole previews Sunday's Women's Super League clash between Everton Ladies and Brighton & Hove Albion Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

After suffering two heavy defeats, Everton Ladies will be looking for a positive response when they welcome Brighton & Hove Albion Women to Walton Hall Park for Sunday's Women's Super League contest.

Brighton, meanwhile, will be looking to claim their first away league victory since beating West Ham United in November.

Match preview

Everton will be reeling from a couple of demoralising defeats against two of the best sides that the WSL has to offer.

After being hammered 7-0 by Chelsea on May 7, the Toffees were swept aside in Wednesday's home meeting with the Gunners.

Arsenal surged into a four-goal lead before half time, and although Katja Snoeijs scored a late consolation, it would have done little to lift the mood as they fell to a 4-1 loss.

Despite experiencing a couple of poor results, sixth-placed Everton are still on course to achieve a top-half finish with five points separating them from city rivals Liverpool, who are in seventh position.

If the Toffees are to pick up a positive result on Sunday then the first goal could be crucial, as Everton have lost all five league games this season when they have conceded the first goal.

Brighton will be hoping to mathematically secure their place in the WSL this weekend, with the ninth-placed side currently five points clear of Reading, who occupy the sole relegation place.

The Seagulls could be safe before they even take to the pitch at Walton Hall Park if Reading fail to beat Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Even if Brighton's top-flight status is secured by the time that they face Everton, they will be keen to claim a positive result after suffering a heavy defeat to Arsenal in their most recent outing.

The Gunners racked up four goals in a dominant first-half display to condemn Melissa Phillips's side to a disappointing 4-0 home defeat.

Having failed to win any of their last seven away league games, Brighton will be hoping to end their winless run in their final away fixture of the 2022-23 season.

Team News

Everton are without the services of Jess Park, who recently returned to her parent club Manchester City due to a shoulder injury, while Gabby George remains sidelined with a hamstring issue.

Chelsea loanee Aggie Beever-Jones is suspended after she was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Arsenal's Lia Walti in midweek.

Lucy Hope and Rikke Sevecke could both be brought into the Everton backline for Everton's final home games of the season.

As for the visitors, they recently confirmed that Jorja Fox has returned to her parent club Chelsea after she sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury earlier this month.

After starting the last two games, Guro Bergsvand is expected to retain her place in the centre of the Brighton defence alongside Zoe Morse.

Libby Bance and Veatriki Sarri both featured as substitutes against Arsenal, and they are both in contention to start on Sunday.

Everton Ladies possible starting lineup:
Ramsey; Hope, Bjorn, Sevecke, Veje; K. Holmgaard, Wheeler, Galli; Sorensen, Bennison, Snoeijs

Brighton & Hove Albion Women possible starting lineup:
Walsh; Kullberg, Morse, Bergsvand, Pattinson; Bance, Olme; Robinson, Terland, Sarri; Lee

We say: Everton Ladies 2-2 Brighton & Hove Albion Women

Brighton are unbeaten in three home meetings with Everton, and we think that they will be able to extend that run with a draw on Sunday.
