Steve Bruce: 'Hull City are rank outsiders'

Steve Bruce claims that the "rest of the world" will be supporting Hull City in their FA Cup final against Arsenal on Saturday.

Steve Bruce has claimed that the "rest of the world" will be supporting Hull City in their FA Cup final against Arsenal on Saturday.

The Tigers will be playing in their first final this weekend against an Arsenal side who have won the competition 10 times in their history.

Bruce has admitted that his side are "rank outsiders", but is taking inspiration from Wigan Athletic, who beat favourites Manchester City in the final last year.

"If you're not an Arsenal fan, I'm sure the rest of the world will be rooting for Hull," he is quoted as saying by the Daily Star. "Last year, we saw Wigan Athletic beat Manchester City, who were huge favourites.

"Everybody enjoys a shock and we are rank outsiders but that's the beauty of the FA Cup – it can bring a bit of glamour. The memories of the FA Cup are ones you cherish when you have finished your career. That's why, for me, it is the greatest competition. It's a one-off game and a place where heroes are made.

"For a club like ours to take on the mighty Arsenal, it just has a fantastic ring to it. That's what the Cup is all about."

Hull finished the season 16th in the Premier League table.
