Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta has indicated that Alexis Sanchez could return to San Siro this summer.

Last season's Champions League runners-up have endured a hectic transfer window as they bid to strengthen their squad and stay on course to meet FFP regulations.

Of their attacking ranks, only Lautaro Martinez has remained at the club, with Romelu Lukaku returning to parent club Chelsea and Edin Dzeko accepting an offer from Fenerbahce.

Marcus Thuram and Marko Arnautovic have effectively been signed as their replacements, and Inter were able to begin their 2023-24 campaign with a 2-0 victory over Monza on Saturday.

However, according to Marotta, Inter have been offered the opportunity to be reunited with Sanchez before the close of business.

Sanchez spent a three-year period with the Italian giants between 2019 and 2022, contributing a total of 20 goals and 23 assists from his 109 appearances in all competitions, many of them coming from the substitutes' bench.

The Chilean legend spent the last campaign at Marseille, where he chipped in with 18 goals and three assists in 44 matches, but the 34-year-old is currently a free agent.

As quoted by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Marotta has revealed that the versatile attacker has given every indication that he would like to return to I Nerazzurri.

Marotta said: "[Joaquin] Correa wants to have more space and yes, Sanchez is keen on returning here.

"Alexis sent us clear messages about his desire to re-join Inter, it's true."

Correa has arguably not lived up to expectations in his two years at Inter, contributing just 10 goals and five assists from his 77 appearances.

If Inter can sell the 29-year-old for a fee, replacing him with Sanchez would theoretically suit all parties, providing that Simone Inzaghi is interested in re-signing for the former Arsenal and Manchester United man.

A report in Corriere dello Sport claims that Correa has interest from Bournemouth, Real Betis and Torino respectively. body check tags ::
