Manchester City Women will attempt to claim a fourth consecutive victory when they play host to Liverpool Women on Sunday.

The hosts currently sit in sixth place in the Women's Super League, while Liverpool are in ninth position after winning one of their opening four league games.

Match preview

After beginning the season with defeats to Aston Villa and Chelsea, the Citizens appear to have found their best form in their previous three matches in all competitions.

Man City recorded their first win of the season with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Leicester City before Tottenham Hotspur were brushed aside via a 3-0 scoreline last weekend.

The Citizens were in action once again in midweek, and it proved to be another dominant display as they thrashed Blackburn Rovers 6-0 in the League Cup.

Mary Fowler and Julie Blakstad both netted two goals apiece against the Championship side, while Hayley Raso and Vicky Losada also got on the scoresheet.

Despite winning their last two league games, Man City are still six points adrift of the top three, but they will look to continue to climb up the WSL table with another victory on Sunday.

Newly-promoted Liverpool began the season with a 2-1 win over WSL champions Chelsea, but they have failed to add another point to their tally since that memorable victory.

Although they have managed to claim two League Cup victories - including a 4-0 win against Leicester in midweek - Liverpool have lost their last three league games without troubling the scorers.

Katie Stengel's two penalties against Chelsea are still the only league goals that the Reds have scored this season, and as a result, they are still searching for their first league goal from open play.

Finding the net against a Man City side who have kept three consecutive clean sheets may prove difficult, but Liverpool can at least take confidence from the fact that four different players found the net against Leicester on Wednesday.

If they can claim their second league victory of the season on Sunday, then Matt Beard's side will move level on points with their opponents.

Team News

The hosts will be without the services of Ruby Mace and Alanna Kennedy, with the pair unavailable due to injury issues.

Taylor made wholesale changes for the league cup win over Blackburn Rovers, and he is set to revert back to the lineup that started against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

Khadija Shaw will lead the line for Man City, and the forward will look to add to the five league goals that she has scored this season.

As for the visitors, they are unable to call upon Leanne Kiernan, who is currently sidelined with an ankle problem.

Shanice van de Sanden could be included in the squad for the first time this season after recovering from injury, although she is expected to be on the bench for Saturday's contest.

Despite beating Leicester in midweek, Beard is expected to make a number of changes after rotating his squad in the League Cup, which could result in the likes of Niamh Fahey, Gilly Flaherty and Stengel returning to the starting lineup.

Manchester City Women possible starting lineup:
Roebuck; Casparij, Aleixandri, Greenwood, Morgan; Coombs, Hasegawa, Castellanos: Kelly, Hemp, Shaw

Liverpool Women possible starting lineup:
Laws; Flaherty, Fahey, Campbell; Koivisto, Matthews, Holland, Hinds; Kearns, Lawley; Stengel

We say: Manchester City Women 2-0 Liverpool Women

Liverpool may have taken confidence from their midweek win over Leicester, but we think that they will lose to a Man City side who have won their last three matches in style.
