Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League One clash between Northampton Town and Bolton Wanderers, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Northampton Town will hope to quickly bounce back from defeat when they host Bolton Wanderers at Sixfields Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile, the visitors are heading into this game in fine form, as they look to make it three wins on the bounce in League One.

Match preview

Northampton have lost two of their last three League One matches, following a 2-0 home defeat against Mansfield Town at Sixfields Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The first half ended goalless, but the Cobblers were unable to hold on as they conceded two minutes into the second half before conceding another goal with one minute left in normal time.

With two wins, two draws, and three defeats from their opening six matches, Jon Brady's side are 17th in the League One table with eight points.

Northampton will remain on home soil for successive matches and will be hoping home support counts for something when they host Bolton, a side they have never beaten at home.

In five meetings between both sides, the Cobblers have drawn one, lost three times, and won just once, with the victory coming away – casting doubt on their ability to end a two-game losing streak on home soil heading into this clash.

Meanwhile, Bolton swiftly recovered from a 5-1 defeat against Arsenal in the EFL Cup last Wednesday to claim a 2-0 victory away at Crawley Town at Broadfield Stadium on Saturday.

Kyle Dempsey eased the Trotters' nerves early in the game with a goal in the fifth minute, and John McAtee sealed the win in the second half with a 73rd-minute strike.

The win marked Ian Evatt's side's first consecutive league victories this season after a 5-2 home triumph over Reading in the previous weekend, propelling them to 14th place with 10 points from seven matches.

The Trotters have been impressive on their travels this campaign, winning four of their six away games across all competitions while losing two, and just one of those defeats has occurred in the league.

Team News

Northampton will continue to be without Patrick Brough, who is out with a leg fracture and facing an extended period on the sidelines, while Ali Koiki also remains absent as he continues to recover from the muscle injury he suffered in August.

Cameron McGeehan is the only Cobbler to have scored more than once this season (two), and he will be hoping to make a difference once again.

Meanwhile, Bolton are facing several injury concerns heading into this match, including Jordi Osei-Tutu, Carlos Mendes Gomes, Klaidi Lolos, Gethin Jones, and Will Forester.

Dion Charles, the Trotters' top scorer this season with four goals, is expected to keep his place in the attack alongside Victor Adeboyejo.

Northampton Town possible starting lineup:
Burge; McGowan, Baldwin, Guthrie, Mbete; Sowerby, Chouchane, McGeehan, Fosu; Pinnock, Roberts

Bolton Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Baxter; Toal, Santos, Johnston; Cogley, Dempsey, Sheehan, Thomason, Schon; Charles, Adeboyejo

We say: Northampton Town 0-1 Bolton Wanderers

Northampton Town are struggling at present and have historically fared poorly in this fixture – this, coupled with Bolton's recent upturn in form, leads us to predict a victory for the visitors.
