Manchester City Women will attempt to claim a sixth consecutive Women's Super League victory when they face Tottenham Hotspur Ladies on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the hosts will be looking to continue their own winning run, having won each of their last four matches across all competitions.

Match preview

After beating Arsenal in their final game of 2023, Tottenham have gone on to enjoy an impressive start to the calendar year, which began with a 3-2 FA Cup win over second-tier Sheffield United.

Robert Vilahamn's side then prevailed in a seven-goal thriller against West Ham United, claiming a 4-3 victory thanks to a Grace Clinton brace as well as efforts from Celin Bizet and Jess Naz.

Clinton was on the scoresheet again in Thursday's 3-0 win over Southampton in the League Cup, securing Tottenham one of the best runners-up spots and a place in the quarter-finals.

After progressing from the group stage of the League Cup, Spurs will now turn their focus back to the WSL, and they are sitting in sixth place at the halfway mark of the season after equalling their 18-point total from the entirety of the 2022-23 campaign.

Tottenham will now attempt to claim their first victory over Man City since running out 2-1 winners in September 2021.

Like their hosts, Man City will also enter Sunday's contest in a confident mood after they cruised to a 5-1 victory over Liverpool last weekend thanks to a Bunny Shaw hat-trick as well as a Gemma Bonner own goal and a Chloe Kelly penalty.

The Citizens enjoyed more success in midweek, as Kelly and Lauren Hemp got on the scoresheet in a 2-1 victory over rivals Manchester United in the League Cup.

Not only did the Citizens secure derby bragging rights, but they also clinched top spot in the group with three wins and one draw from four matches.

While they would like to lift the League Cup trophy, Man City will be desperate to win their second WSL title, with Gareth Taylor's side currently three points adrift of leaders Chelsea.

The Citizens will certainly fancy their chances of recording a victory on Sunday, having won each of their last five games against Tottenham, including a resounding 7-0 win in the reverse fixture.

Team News

The home side are expected to be without the services of Drew Spence, Luana Buhler and Wang Shuang due to injury.

Asmita Ale will not be available after she recently joined Leicester City on a loan deal until the end of the season.

January addition Amanda Nilden made her debut in Thursday's League Cup win over Southampton, but she may have to settle for a place on the bench for Sunday's contest.

As for the visitors, Jill Roord is expected to miss out after she was forced off in the ninth minute of Tuesday's Manchester derby.

Having recovered from an Achilles problem, defender Alanna Kennedy is set to feature among the substitutes on Sunday.

Shaw, who is currently the leading scorer in the WSL, will have the chance to add to her impressive 12-goal league tally when she leads the line.

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies possible starting lineup:
Votikova; Grant, Turner, Bartrip, Neville; Bizet, Ahtinen, Summanen, Clinton; England, Thomas

Manchester City Women possible starting lineup:
Keating; Aleixandri, Kennedy, Greenwood, Ouahabi; Angeldahl, Hasegawa; Kelly, Coombs, Hemp; Shaw

We say: Tottenham Hotspur Ladies 1-2 Manchester City Women

While we do not expect Man City to repeat November's 7-0 win over Spurs, we do believe that the visitors will do enough to extend their five-game winning run in head-to-head meetings with Tottenham.
