Sports Mole previews Saturday's National League clash between Wrexham and Boreham Wood, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Wrexham will be looking to seal the National League title with a victory over Boreham Wood at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday evening.

The Dragons are one win away from a return to the Football League, while the visitors will be looking to consolidate their position in the National League playoff places.

Match preview

Wrexham and Yeovil went into the game at the Racecourse Ground on Tuesday evening needing maximum points for very different reasons - a Wrexham victory would take them a step closer to the title and automatic promotion, while a win for Yeovil was essential for them to have any chance of avoiding the drop.

Anthony Forde, James Jones and Paul Mullin's second-half goals against the Glovers ensured that victory on Saturday against Boreham Wood would seal automatic promotion and a return to the EFL for the Dragons for the first time in 15 years.

With two games remaining, Phil Parkinson's side are four points clear of second-placed Notts County, with that enthralling 3-2 victory over the Magpies on Easter Monday proving to be crucial.

The victory over Yeovil took Wrexham's points tally to 107, breaking the National League and professional English single-season points record.

This Wrexham group will go down as one of non league's best-ever outfits, and their story under the ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney is worth all of the attention it is receiving.

Meanwhile, Boreham Wood will be keen to spoil the party atmosphere on Saturday as they attempt to secure their place in the playoffs to keep their own promotion hopes alive.

George Broadbent's early goal was enough to seal victory over Wealdstone last weekend, as the Wood come into Saturday's contest tasting defeat just once in their last four outings.

Broadbent fired Luke Garrard's side into the lead when he sweetly caught a half volley that flew beyond Sam Howes in the Stones net after nine minutes, and they continued to dominate throughout the opening 45 minutes with a whole host of chances seeing the Wood perhaps disappointed to not go into the break more than a goal to the good.

The Wood are currently in sixth place on 69 points, four points clear of eighth-placed Eastleigh and with a game in hand on the teams around them, which could prove to be crucial in determining where they finish in the table.

Every point is vital for Boreham Wood at this stage, as finishing in fifth place would give them home advantage in the playoff eliminator match and the chance to take on the team that finishes in sixth place at Meadow Park.

Team News

Ex-Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster will keep his place between the sticks for Wrexham, while Paul Mullin will lead the line for the Dragons after reaching 44 goals for the season across all competitions against Yeovil.

Jacob Mendy missed Wrexham's midweek clash with Yeovil due to injury, and this match may come too soon for the defender.

As for the visitors, Luke Garrard named an unchanged starting XI against Wealdstone from the side that drew with Bromley, and he could do the same once again, as the Wood look to maintain form ahead of the final few games of the season.

Nathan Ashmore has been a mainstay in goal for Boreham Wood, playing every minute of every National League game so far this season.

Jack Payne is expected to retain his place in the engine room, while Lee Ndlovu will lead the line and attempt to add to his 10 National League goals this campaign.

Wrexham possible starting lineup:
Foster; Tozer, Forde, O'Connell, Cannon; Lee, Jones, O'Connor, Palmer; Mullin, Barnett

Boreham Wood possible starting lineup:
Ashmore; Agbontohoma, Evans, Bush; Sousa, Payne, Broadbent, Ilesanmi; Brunt; Ndlovu, Marsh

We say: Wrexham 2-0 Boreham Wood

It is difficult to see anything other than a Wrexham win, with the Dragons being within touching distance of the title.

It will be a party atmosphere at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday, and we think Wrexham will put on a show for their fans.
