Manchester City Women will look to maintain their unbeaten start to the season when they travel to Meadow Park for Sunday's Women's Super League meeting with Arsenal Women.

The Gunners, meanwhile, are aiming to clinch a third consecutive victory after beating Aston Villa and Bristol City in their last two outings.

Match preview

Arsenal's 2023-24 campaign began in disastrous fashion after their elimination from the Champions League qualifying stages was followed by a sluggish start to the WSL season.

The Gunners suffered an opening-day defeat to Liverpool, before they left it late to salvage a draw against Manchester United.

After taking just a single point from their first two league games, Arsenal finally instilled some much-needed impetus into their campaign with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Aston Villa thanks to stoppage-time efforts from Katie McCabe and Alessia Russo.

McCabe proved to be a key player in Arsenal's final match before the international break, netting a brace to guide Jonas Eidevall's side to a narrow 2-1 win over newly-promoted Bristol City.

While Arsenal currently reside in seventh position, a third consecutive victory would see them move level on points with Sunday's opponents, who are currently leading the way in the WSL.

After missing out on the top three last term, Man City have made a purposeful start to the current campaign, having won four and drawn one of their opening five games across all competitions.

They kicked off the WSL season with a win over West Ham United and a draw against Chelsea, before they began their League Cup campaign with a 2-1 victory in their away meeting with Everton.

The Citizens returned to league action with a dominant 5-0 win over newly-promoted Bristol City, and Chloe Kelly ensured that Man City carried significant momentum into the international break after she scored the decisive goal in a 1-0 victory against Leicester City.

As a result of their fine form, Man City are currently sitting top of the WSL table, courtesy of their superior goal difference compared to second-placed Chelsea.

With the Citizens dreaming of winning their second WSL trophy, Sunday's encounter against a top-quality Arsenal side represents a great opportunity to lay down a marker as viable title contenders.

Team News

Arsenal are still unable to call upon Leah Williamson, Laura Wienroither and Teyah Goldie, who are all sidelined with anterior cruciate ligament injuries.

Lina Hurtig, Amanda Ilestedt and Lia Walti are doubts for Sunday's contest, but Eidevall is hopeful that the trio can be involved in some capacity.

Having scored six goals in their last four appearances for club and country, McCabe will be looking to continue her fine form when she lines up against Man City.

As for the Citizens, Taylor has confirmed that Alex Greenwood will miss out due to concussion protocols after the defender suffered a nasty head collision in England's 3-2 defeat to Belgium on Tuesday.

Demi Stokes is also unlikely to feature in the matchday squad, as she continues to work her way back to full fitness.

After returning from injury to play the final 30 minutes against Leicester, Lauren Hemp went on to start both of England's Nations League games against Belgium, and she is expected to make the lineup for the meeting with Arsenal.

Arsenal Women possible starting lineup:
Zinsberger; Maritz, Wubben-Moy, Codina, Catley; Little, Walti; McCabe, Maanum, Foord; Russo

Manchester City Women possible starting lineup:
Keating; Morgan, Kennedy, Houghton, Aleixandri; Angeldal, Hasegawa, Roord; Hemp, Kelly, Shaw

We say: Arsenal Women 1-1 Manchester City Women

Arsenal will be desperate to close the three-point gap to Man City this weekend, but with the Citizens proving to be a tough team to beat, we think that the hosts will have to settle for a share of the spoils.
