Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League One clash between Barnsley and Bolton Wanderers, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Two promotion hopefuls will face off when Barnsley welcome Bolton Wanderers to Oakwell for Tuesday's League One contest.

The Tykes are currently sitting in fourth place with 66 points to their name, while Bolton are three points better off in third position.

Match preview

Barnsley will head into the important midweek clash in impressive form after claiming a third consecutive victory in Saturday's away meeting with Wycombe Wanderers.

Sam Cosgrove and Donovan Pines both netted equalisers to help Barnsley come from behind on a couple of occasions, before Corey O'Keeffe and Conor Grant grabbed a goal apiece to wrap up a 4-2 victory.

Having avoided defeat in their last six matches, Barnsley are three points adrift of Barnsley in third place and Derby County in second spot.

After enjoying a successful trip to Adams Park, the Tykes will return to Oakwell where they have won four of their last five league matches.

Although they played out a draw with Bolton earlier this month, Barnsley managed to record a narrow 1-0 victory in their most recent home meeting with the Trotters in May last year.

Bolton will have the chance to claim a second straight victory after they bounced back from consecutive defeats to beat Cambridge United at the weekend.

George Thomason opened the scoring in the 35th minute, before Aaron Collins doubled the advantage in the second period to seal all three points and extend Bolton's unbeaten home league run to seven matches.

With the Trotters sitting outside the top two on goal difference, they will move into the automatic promotion places if they can pick up a point from Tuesday's contest.

However, Bolton have struggled for consistency on their travels, having won four, drawn two and lost four of their last 10 away league matches.

The Trotters can at least be encouraged by the fact that prior to their defeat at Oakwell last season, they enjoyed a seven-game unbeaten run in away games against the Yorkshire side.

Team News

Barnsley are still unable to call upon the services of Robbie Cundy and Matty Wolfe, who are both recovering from long-term injuries.

Wideman Nicky Cadden and forward John McAtee are also doubts after they missed the 4-2 away victory over Wycombe.

Despite marking Saturday's substitute appearance with a goal, Grant may have to settle for a place on the bench once again.

As for the visitors, Carlos Mendes Gomes is set to miss the remainder of the season after he ruptured his Achilles in the defeat to Wigan last Tuesday.

The Trotters are also expected to be without Nathan Baxter and Dion Charles, who are nursing wrist and knee injuries respectively.

After seeing his side claim all three points at the weekend, Evatt may opt for continuity and name an unchanged lineup for Tuesday's contest.

Barnsley possible starting lineup:
Roberts; De Gevigney, Pines, Earl; Williams, Kane, Connell, Phillips, O'Keefe; Cole, Cosgrove

Bolton Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Coleman; Jones, Santos, Toal; Dacres-Cogley, Thomason, Maghoma, Ogbeta; Collins, Adeboyejo

We say: Barnsley 2-2 Bolton Wanderers

Both teams will be desperate to claim all three points to aid their promotion bids, but after playing out a draw in February's reverse fixture, we think that the two closely-matched sides may have to settle for a share of the spoils once again.
