Sports Mole previews Sunday's Women's Super League clash between Everton Ladies and Manchester United Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

A high-flying Manchester United Women side will be looking to maintain their 100% winning record with another triumph over Everton Ladies on Sunday afternoon.

Everton have enjoyed a strong start themselves and the Toffees enter the weekend just three points behind United in the Women's Super League table.

Match preview

Level on points with exactly the same goal difference as leaders Arsenal, United's start to the season has come as little surprise, given their strong showing last term.

Missing out on UEFA Women's Champions League qualification on the final day at the expense of rivals Manchester City, United regrouped in the summer and have once again come out fighting.

Not only do United boast an imperious record so far this season, they also have a perfect defensive record to show for it too, with the Red Devils having shipped a grand total of zero goals in four matches.

A slender victory over strugglers Leicester City last time out proved that United do have the capabilities to win ugly, as Nikita Parris' goal gave them a hard-fought three points.

While their early-season record does not quite match up to that of their weekend hosts, Everton have enjoyed a successful start of their own, with many tipping the Toffees to compete in the top half this season.

Nine points from a possible 15 represents an impressive return for Everton, with last weekend's win over Aston Villa taking them up to fourth in the table.

Unlikely to challenge for Europe, Everton's objective will be to compete as high up as possible, with a shrewd defensive record likely to boost their hopes.

Only United and Arsenal have conceded fewer goals than Everton so far – an indication of the Toffees' strong resolve.

However, that record may come under threat this weekend, given United's strong performances over Everton in recent seasons.

Since United earned promotion to the WSL in 2019, the Red Devils have won five of their six meetings in the top flight, drawing the other in that time.

Team News

Amidst talk about a potential move out of the WSL, United's main goal threat in Alessia Russo is still out of the side with injury.

In her place, Lucia Garcia is expected to start alongside Parris, with Ella Toone operating in behind.

England number one Mary Earps will be keen to maintain her strong start to the WSL, with the goalkeeper yet to concede.

Lucy Graham netted the only goal of the game as Everton squeezed past Aston Villa last time out, with the midfielder likely to start alongside Karen Holmgaard and Hanna Bennison.

Manchester City loanee Jess Park has impressed since joining Everton and the 21-year-old is expected to retain her position at the tip of the Toffees attack.

Everton Ladies possible starting lineup:
Brosnan; Finnigan, Bjorn, Sevecke, Veje, George; Graham, Holmgaard, Bennison; Snoeijs, Park

Manchester United Women possible starting lineup:
Earps; Thorisdottir, Le Tissier, Turner, Blundell, Zelem, Staniforth; Galton, Garcia, Parris, Toone

We say: Everton Ladies 0-2 Manchester United Women

It has been a formidable start to the 2022-23 season for United and they will be confident of maintaining their 100% winning record this weekend.

United should take three points this weekend, but it will not be a breeze for the Reds.
