Sports Mole

Feyenoord welcome FC Midtjylland to De Kuip on Thursday evening in matchday four of the 2022-23 Europa League group-stage campaign.

With the teams currently level on points heading into their meeting in Rotterdam, the game promises to be an exciting one with three crucial points on the line.

Match preview

Feyenoord ended a three-match winless run across all competitions in grand style courtesy of a comfortable 2-0 victory over FC Twente on Sunday.

Arne Slot's men broke the deadlock just before the half time whistle through Orkun Kokcu before David Hancko sealed the deal in the 64th minute.

This came off the back of a 1-1 stalemate against Midtjylland in their last European outing, which leaves De Stadionclub still sit top of Group F, albeit only on goal difference.

Back home, Feyenoord remain fourth in the Eredivisie standings, three points behind leaders AZ Alkmaar ahead of the sides' clash this weekend.

Currently on a run of five straight clean sheets on home turf and four wins in that time, Thursday's hosts now set out to take a huge step towards progressing into the next round of the Europa League in front of an expectant home crowd.

Midtjylland put an end to a run of two consecutive share of the spoils with a narrow 1-0 triumph over Aarhus at the Ceres Park on Sunday afternoon.

Despite having the upper hand for large spells of the game, Albert Capellas's men looked set to drop points for the third match in a row before Anders Dreyer grabbed a late winner.

As a result, the Boys of the Moor have moved up into fifth place in the Superliga standings with 17 points picked up from their 12 league outings so far.

Having suffered defeat in each of their most recent three European away matches, Thursday's visitors will be looking to secure a priceless continental victory on enemy territory.

Team News

Oussama Idrissi missed Feyenoord's victory over Twente due to a knock, and the 26-year-old is also on course to sit out Thursday's game as well.

Following his opener in the aforementioned game, Orkun Kokcu has now scored in back to back matches for the home side, making him one to look out for here.

Danilo had to make do with a second-half cameo last time out, but the forward is expected to be recalled to the starting lineup for this one.

Junior Brumado was absent from a fourth Midtjylland game in a row over the weekend, and the Brazilian is a guaranteed absentee for the visitors.

Gustav Isaksen will be aiming to score for the third Europa League game in a row having netted against Lazio and most recently, Feyenoord.

Feyenoord possible starting lineup:
Bijlow; Pedersen, Trauner, Rasmussen, Hancko; Geertruida, Timber, Kokcu; Dilrosun, Danilo, Szymanski

FC Midtjylland possible starting lineup:
Lossl; Andersson, Dalsgaard, Sviatchenko, Paulinho; Martinez, Olsson, Evander; Isaksen, Sisto, Kaba

We say: Feyenoord 2-0 FC Midtjylland

Feyenoord were a tad unlucky not to have come away with all three points in last week's meeting with Midtjylland, but they will back themselves to get the job done this time around. We are tipping the home side to carry the day at the end of the 90 minutes.
