Sports Mole previews Saturday's League One clash between Shrewsbury Town and Cambridge United, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Shrewsbury Town take on relegation-threatened Cambridge United at the Montgomery Waters Meadow Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Nothing can separate Steve Cotterill's side from the intensely-competitive playoff positions and the trapdoor that leads to League Two. Meanwhile, The U's are involved in a relegation dogfight in the wake of only two victories on their expeditions across League One this season.

Match preview

Spending their eighth successive campaign in the third tier of English football, Shrewsbury Town currently occupy 14th position in the League One standings.

Eight points away from the intensely-competitive playoff positions but the exact number above the relegation positions, Cotterill's side have registered seventeen points from a possible 39 on offer in front of their supporters this season.

Without a league victory across three matches, Cambridge United are currently on course to make their first return to the fourth tier of English football for the first time since 2021.

With only two victories in their last 14 matches, Mark Bonner's side will be on the lookout to register back-to-back victories over Shrewsbury Town across the current League One campaign.

Team News

In the wake of their comprehensive victory over Burton Albion, Shrewsbury Town manager Steve Cotterill will not be expected to make any changes to his starting XI.

After netting a brace against relegation-threatened Burton, on-loan Bournemouth striker Christian Saydee will again be entrusted to lead the Salop's line alongside fellow Premier League loanee Rob Street.

Don't be surprised to see a familiar-looking defensive set-up from Cotterill, with Matthew Pennington, Chey Dunkley and Tom Flanagan already inked into the hosts' team sheet.

With the unwanted narrative of the joint-second lowest number of goals throughout the current League One campaign, Cambridge United will rely on Sam Smith, Harvey Knibbs and Shilow Tracey and James Brophy to spearhead their attack at the Montgomery Waters Meadow.

At the other end of the pitch, Mark Bonner could freshen up his defensive reinforcements by potentially handing Liam Bennett a recall to the side at the expense of Steve Seddon after witnessing the ball being picked out of the net 10 times in their previous three matches.

Shrewsbury Town possible starting lineup:
Marosi; Pennington, Dunkley, Flanagan; Moore, Winchester, Leahy, Shiply, Phillips; Street, Saydee

Cambridge United possible starting lineup:
Mannion; Bennett, Williams, Taylor, Okendina; Worman, Digby; Brophy, Tracey, Knibbs, Smith

We say: Shrewsbury Town 3-1 Cambridge United

In pursuit of a double-digit number of victories in the current League One campaign, we can envision this coming to fruition come 5pm on Saturday, as Shrewsbury Town condemns Cambridge United into further relegation turmoil.
